Tips to Overcome Cold and Flu Season

By Raquél Helm

Your body is your temple and you only have one life to live. You might as well live it to your fullest potential. As winter approaches, there are many ways to stay healthy during this cold and flu season. You are your best advocate for your health, so stay informed on how to build up your immune system to be able to live the best life you want to live.

Here are a few tips to overcome flu season:

  1. Eat something raw everyday. You can start with any type of nuts such as almonds, walnuts or sunflower seeds. Of course fruit is always good to eat in the morning. Try to skip biscuits and pancakes and go for something raw to start your day.
  2. Drink your veggies. If you don’t like chewing on raw veggies, there are many ways you can blend them in a juice or smoothie. Stop by your grocery store or your favorite smoothie shop. Go green!
  3. Keep your nasal airways clean by using a neti or a nasal spray. Viruses can be airborne and flow through your nasal cavity and start sinus infections. Try to avoid antihistamines, but make sure you keep plenty of tissue with you.
  4. Inhale essential oils such as peppermint, eucalyptus and lavender. These oils can help to open up congestion as a holistic approach to healing.
  5. Lemons and limes are packed with Vitamin C. Squeeze any of the two in hot water and sip on this to help build up your immune system. Add honey for a little flavor. Avoid adding sugar.
  6. Sugar detox. Try to avoid all sugary drinks and foods until you begin to feel better. Your body will appreciate your efforts.
  7. If you feel the need to fast, allow your body to skip a meal and decide what time of day is it best for you to fast.

That sounds easy right? The best way to incorporate new ideas that is beneficial to your temple is to practice them daily, until it becomes routine. Your temple, will appreciate the love you give and your temple will reward you later.

QueenLyfe

I am so happy to see more people working and branding their own ideas and walking in their purpose with the support of their community. Check out Houston’s own QueenLyfe started by Candace Strother.

QueenLyfe is a non-profit corporation whose mission is to promote financial literacy, creative expression, healthy relationships, mentorship and civic engagement through their workshops and events for multi-cultural women of all ages.

One initiative I’ve been able to participate in is the Mental Wellness Walk. The group meets at 8am and are introduced with warm greetings. A short warmup and stretch exercise is done before 2 1/2 mile walk around Hermann Park!

In addition, there is a guest speaker to pour life into your spirit to discuss mental wellness and how you can apply tools to your life to help you maintain a good mental state of mind.

It’s a great time to connect with other women and talk it out while you walk.

Connect with yourself and join their last Mental Wellness Walk for this season. Saturday, October 20, 2018 8am.

What’s Most Important?

Always remember, no matter how bad some things are, they could always be worst and no matter how good things are, there is always room for things to get better. Better is always around the corner.

You are one of the best, because there are so many great things about you, that if you get caught up on focusing on one thing, you might miss what’s most important. ~You. ~ Anonymous

I Forgive

There comes a time for cleansing and a time to reflect on your personal behaviors. A time to acknowledge where you were wrong or you may have experienced an interaction between you and another person and you felt they may have done the wrong thing. There is Power and Redemption in forgiveness.

I am a witness that it removes the hatred and the ill feelings of anger and perhaps one day you will be able to move forward in peace with or without their apology. I want to start from within and work my way through it. Yes, my travel experiences have been very exciting and fun, but it was not always the right thing to do and I am not sure how many people I have abused along the way. I am sorry for the abuse. I chose to open that door to love.

I wanted my eyes to see, my ears to hear, my nose to smell, my feet and my fingers to touch, and my tongue to taste the essence of true love. I was exposed to it all. I was all in. I truly loved.

My love experience had some astonishing and enlightening facts and secrets that were revealed to me. Revelations of good and bad can have its way of turning lives around and it is ok to acknowledge that revelation. His divine truth is only to be embraced and never rejected. Through acknowledgement and acceptance is when there will be a true change. Love is a state of being. It defines who you are and whose you are. When I can forgive, I can say I have accepted the full responsibility of love.

It is still Good Friday

For if thou altogether holdest thy peace at this time, then shall there enlargement and deliverance arise to the Jews from another place; but thou and thy father’s house shall be destroyed: and who knoweth whether thou art come to the kingdom for such a time as this?

Esther 4:14-16 KJV

Despite the list of all tragic events in the world, it is still Good Friday! A time of remembrance that we are saved by mercy and His grace is sufficient for us all.

Resurrection Weekend

Enjoy your time with your family!

Be Joyful!

Be Joyful today. I know it’s hard sometimes because of what you’re going through or being exposed to others suffering. All we can do is try to be joyful.

I was catching up on the world news this past weekend and discovered that a man who was residing in Puerto Rico committed suicide. He had gone without a sufficient supply of food, clean water and electricity. The very next day after he passed away, the electricity was restored to his home.

Lord, when we are suffering from a lack of food, clean water and electricity, how long can we hold on?

The March For Our Lives took place on our nation’s capital and other states around the world to bring attention to the gun laws to prevent mass school shootings. There were some pretty impressive speeches and some peculiar things happening on that stage. This one student threw up in the middle of her speech and stated, “I just threw up and it feels great!” I didn’t know if she was nervous about speaking publicly or had a hangover!

On a personal note, our Family Church Fast is finally over. I probably lost five pounds so now I need to eat like 10x to gain the weight I lost. Lol God gave me a small frame. I was not trying to lose any weight but I was led to fast and pray. I have some major decisions to make and I want the Holy Trinity to lead me into making these decisions. Thy will be done. YHWH

My oldest son should be graduating this year, but has been borderline with his academic success. As a parent, I take full responsibility for his failures. Being a single mother has its full responsibility and my plate is full. One day at a time, they try to ensure me that they will get the job done. They tell me I worry too much. Ok but when it’s time to graduate and you do not make it across that stage to get your high school diploma, then who is the one going to be worried now? Get it done, son!

I received a text from my long term, overseas friend, mi novio, now currently my fiancé asking me if we are getting married in April. I am thinking to myself, why did he ask me that? I paused for a long time because I did not know how to respond to him. Only God knows the plans he has for us. It is up to us to be close enough in communion with HIM to follow his lead. I am only trying to be obedient to the call.

This entire process of trying to marry someone from another country has been challenging. I am trying to learn the correct process in how to get things done.

1. Papers Apostilled

2. Papers Translated

3. Civil Ceremony

4. Visa/Passport

5. Airline Ticket

I may try to visit the Consulate of the Dominican Republic- Houston this week. I never knew they had an office here until yesterday. Even going through this challenging process, the Lord reveals things to me little by little and bit by bit. That is why I love the Lord so much because He teaches me to depend on the guidance of the Holy Trinity. Even in something as trivial as this, despite everyone else’s turmoil and suffering, God Is Still Omnipresent! Powerful and Superior. It is His will that everyone is saved and that no one shall perish.

Turn to the Lord and Be Joyful!

Enjoy the rest of your week!

Shalom

Holy Week

I have the privilege to partake in the presence of the Holy Spirit daily, but during certain times of the year, there’s a special time set aside for worship, adoration, giving thanks, repentance, protection, and praise. We get the opportunity to go around this room and write down our thoughts and we pour out what’s in our minds and what’s on our hearts; not only for ourselves, but for those who are suffering, persecuted and or lost. I do not take this time for granted. I’m very grateful. I’m humble. An awesome place to be. Thank you.

We Are His People

Yes, there has been one tragedy after another, but death has not defeated us. We may not know why this happens to us, but we will one day. You know who you are and you know who you belong to. We are God’s People. ~ Daily Devotional #God’sPeople

I can not even think about pursuing my own goals in these moments. I’m speechless with where this world is going. My focus has changed to the people who are literally suffering.

God restore them in their brokenness. When it’s my time to move, prepare me to help that next person.

You Make Him Happy

The Lord will not forsake his people, for his great name’s sake, because it has pleased the Lord to make you a people for himself. I Samuel 12:22 ESV

Deserted Hearts

God is… He is everything. He is a light even to those who have nothing. It is not His desire that we suffer, but nonetheless He is always a comforter and a very present help. He loves them and us just the same. No one is esteemed above the other. That’s how he wants us to treat each other, but are we really unbiased on how we treat the poor, the less fortunate? We want to turn our backs on them. It’s not our problem how they live their lives. Just keep on walking by. They’re peasants in our lives.

He found them in a desert, a windy, empty land. He surrounded them and brought them up, guarding them as those he loved very much. Deuteronomy 32:10 NCV

What does it take to live a life to care for the poor? It’s a calling on your life that many do not heed to. It’s a calling that is not for everyone to accept, but if you’re that one! That one person that knows you can take care of only one person that is poor, you will find it in your heart to help where you can help, even if it’s just one dollar. You never know how a little can go a long way in their life.

Give a little of your life to help those in need.

Thank you Father, that you are near to me even when my heart is broken and my strength has failed. Thank you that you find me in my wilderness and you will restore me to joy.

Bring HIM honor and glory

Only let each person lead the life that the Lord has assigned to him, and to which God has called him. This is my rule in all the churches. 1 Corinthians 7:17 ESV

I was taught that we have direct access to the Trinity. God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. It is the newness of our spirit that can bring honor and glory when we give up our own desires of the flesh to a higher calling on our lives.

But on the other hand, I was also taught that God gave us free will to choose for ourselves how we want to live our lives and to live pursuing our own goals and aspirations.

Lord is this the life you chose for me or am I pursuing my own goals and aspirations?

At what point do you really choose the life God has for you?

Do you continue on your own path of righteousness or do you fully surrender unto the Lord Almighty?

Lord I want to bring you honor in the way that I live and glory in how I use my unique talents. Make your calling clear to me so that I can fulfill it. ~ Amen
